KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- The newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin aims to empower the roles of the agency and take it to greater heights.
She said among the aspects that would be given extra focus would be improving Bernama news reporting and bringing changes to the content of Bernama TV.
“Among the efforts to be taken is to further enhance the production of news and information on a global level, especially within ASEAN, in line with Malaysia's role as the ASEAN Chair in 2025.
“We will continue to improve our news production, including by having more exclusive reports. I have full confidence in the Editorial Department led by the new Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj in implementing the plans we have across all platforms of the department,” she said.
Nur-ul Afida, who is formerly Bernama Editor-in-Chief, also said that special attention would also be given to Bernama’s main project this year, the National Journalists Day (HAWANA) 2024 celebration in Kuching, Sarawak, scheduled to be held in May, as well as several of its pocket events in Kuala Lumpur and other states.
Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai in a statement today announced the appointments of Nur-ul Afida dan Arul Rajoo as the agency’s new CEO and Editor-in-Chief respectively.
He said their appointments were finalised at the Bernama Board of Governors’ meeting at Wisma Bernama on Tuesday and other appointments to fill the vacancies in the agency will be decided by the management later.
Nur-ul Afida also thanked the Bernama Board of Governors for the trust placed in her, saying that she would carry out her new responsibilities as the CEO of the news agency to the best of her ability.
“Alhamdulillah...thank you to the Board of Governors led by its Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai for the trust placed in me as the new CEO. Insya-Allah, I will do my level best,” she said.
Meanwhile, Arul Rajoo makes it his mission to ensure that Bernama produces more news and content of high quality in line with the current trends while continuing to be a main platform to disseminate accurate information about government projects and initiatives.
“We will also make efforts to create content suitable for the youth by incorporating elements of artificial intelligence (AI).
“Many people tend to think that Bernama only produces hard news stories, but now we have taken steps to also produce more soft news with lighter content, such as on lifestyle, entertainment, health, and others,” he said.
