Worldwide Environment Invitational Bowling C'ship A Blazing Success - Whb

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- The 2024 Worldwide Environment Invitational Bowling Championships saw 41 teams from various Federal and Selangor state government departments, agencies and members of the media down their tools to blaze the lanes at the Sunway Pyramid Bowl, Selangor on Saturday.

Worldwide Holdings Bhd (WHB) in a statement said the championship organised by the WHB Group’s Environmental Division saw about 200 keglers engaged in a competitive battle for honours and the RM2,550 prize money plus lucky draw prizes offered.

“The participants represented the Department of National Solid Waste Management (JPSPN), Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp), Sustainable Energy Development Agency (SEDA) and Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corp (MGTC).

“Also in the list were bowlers from Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), Selangor state Economic Planning Unit (UPEN), Selangor State Secretariat, Selangor State Treasury Office, Selangor Department of Environment and Selangor Forestry Department,” said the statement.

Others who participated in the bowling challenge were representatives from the Selangor state local government, representatives from all districts in Selangor as well as media practitioners from Bernama, New Straits Times (NST), Berita Harian (BH), Sinar Harian and Media Selangor.

The winner of the team category went to Team JPP Strike from the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) after knocking down 2,359 pins while second place went to Team PADU X from UPEN SPBT with 2,231 pinfalls while Team BERNAMA DIGITAL clinched third spot after knocking down 1,976 pins.

The top spot in the men’s individual category was won by Mohd Ikhzal from Team JPP Strike with 640 pinfalls while the women’s individual champion was Norhayati Mohd Ali from Majlis Perbandaran Hulu Selangor with 511 pinfalls.

The championships also saw two keglers going home with special prizes after achieving five consecutive strikes, namely Shahril Hafiz from JPP Strikes and Mohd Zaki from UPEN SPBT.

Since last year, the Environment Division of WHB had been actively organising various programmes and activities involving stakeholders, like friendly futsal, football and badminton games.  

Meanwhile, WHB Group’s Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria in the same statement said the last time the group organised a bowling championships was in 2019, before the COVID-19 Pandemic and had served as a platform to celebrate the collaboration and strengthen relationship between Worldwide, PBT, government agencies and media.

“The return of the event serves as an opportunity for us to appreciate all those who have assisted WHB in our operation, business and for providing all the support, especially to the environmental division,” she said.
