Zhejiang Sinopont Opens New Solar Plant In Perak

IPOH, March 1 (Bernama) -- Zhejiang Sinopont Technology Co Ltd which is based in China has opened its new manufacturing facility in Taman Perindustrian Tasek here as its investment plan in Perak.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the initiative will create 200 new jobs with the commitment of employing 100 per cent Perak residents.

According to him, Zhejiang Sinopont’s investment via its wholly owned subsidiary in Malaysia, Sinopont Everthriving (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd also underpins the strong combination of several main Flagships agenda of Perak Sejahera 2030 which includes Flagship 9 - Investor Friendly Programme.

"I was also informed that this factory will later be able to produce solar cell encapsulated film with a production capacity of 85 million square metres to meet the demand of 10 gigawatts (GW).

"The focus on the production of solar cell encapsulated film also clearly shows the state government's commitment to the use of green technology and sustainable development in line with the vision to create a hub for green technology and innovation under Flagship 12 of Pelan Perak Sejahera 2030," he said when speaking at Sinopont new solar factory opening ceremony here today.

Also present at the ceremony was Perak State Secretary, Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim and Perak Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman, Loh Sze Yee.

Also present were Sinopont chairman, Xianglai Cao, Sinopont Everthriving general manager , Liu Yongzhan and the Director of the Perak Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) director, Mohd Fairuz Iqbal Mohd Akhbar.

Earlier, Saarani witnessed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Zhejiang Sinopont and the Investment Management Centre (InvestPerak) in Hangzhou, China during the Perak Menteri Besar's investment promotion mission to the People's Republic of China (PRC) on October 15 to 21.

Zhejiang Sinopont's investment in Perak will go through several phases and is expected to reach a production capacity of 300 million square metres to meet the demand of 30 GW with a total investment estimated at about RM2 billion including future projects in Perak.

Saarani also said that the investment also reflects a high confidence in the state's potential and capabilities as well as being a symbol of progress in industrial innovation, especially in the production of solar cell encapsulated films.

"The state government always welcomes the interest of investors from inside and outside the country who are able to support Perak's aspirations to make the state a famous investment destination in Asia in particular and the world in general.

"Zhejiang Sinopont's move to invest in Perak reflects our commitment not only to focus on economic growth but also on the development of the sustainable energy solutions industry," he said.
