KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) expects to generate RM2.6 billion in export sales this year via seven key trade programmes between Malaysia and China to commemorate the 50th year of diplomatic relations with China.
In a statement today, MATRADE said the trade events are expected to benefit more than 500 Malaysian exporters, aimed at deepening economic relations between the two countries.
Deputy chief executive officer (Export Acceleration) Abu Bakar Yusof said the events include a webinar on “Strategising Your Market Penetration to China and Hong Kong” held on March 13, featuring its trade commissioners in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Hong Kong, and an export acceleration mission in conjunction with the China Food and Drinks Fair from March 19-22, 2024.
The next event in the pipeline is the China International Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Fair in Guangzhou (June 27-30), where Malaysia’s participation will be organised in association with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology with MATRADE’s support.
The programme provides a platform for domestic and international SMEs to showcase trade and collaboration, where the Malaysian Pavilion will feature sectors such as intelligent manufacturing, food and beverage, halal products, fashion, tourism, crafts, gifts, and essential business services.
Malaysia has also been selected as the country of honour for the 21st China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO), set to take place at Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Centre from Sept 24-28.
“This designation underscores Malaysia's pivotal role in fostering trade and partnership between ASEAN and China,” said MATRADE.
The expo will showcase 150 Malaysian companies across various sectors, aiming to generate RM300 million in export sales.
This will be followed by the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai (Nov 5-10), which is expected to generate RM160 million in export sales, while the Malaysian National Pavilion at COSMOPROF Asia 2024 (Nov 14-17) in Hong Kong will showcase Malaysia’s vibrant beauty and cosmetics industry.
Meanwhile, the Malaysia-China Summit (MCS) in Kuala Lumpur (Dec 17-19), which will be the grand finale event, is expected to potentially record trade and investment opportunities worth over RM2 billion.
