KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 (Bernama) -- Both national track cyclists – Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom and Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri – got their 2024 UCI (International Cycling Union) Track Nations Cup campaign in Milton, Canada, off to a disappointing fashion on Saturday.

Muhammad Ridwan and Nurul Izzah Izzati endured early exit in their respective events during the third and final leg of the tournament held in Mattamy National Track Cycling Centre.

In men’s keirin, Muhammad Ridwan failed to get past the first round repechage after he finished second and behind the winner from the Netherlands, Jeffrey Hoogland, in the heat six.

The first rider in each heat qualifies for the second round.

The Johorean had to compete in the first round repechages after he earned the fourth spot in heat four of the first round.

The first rider in each heat qualified for the second round while all other riders advanced to the first round repechages.

Meanwhile, the national women’s track cyclist rising star, Nurul Izzah went down to Luz Daniela Gaxiola Gonzalez of Mexico in the heat one of the women’s sprint 1/16 finals.

The 20-year-old had earlier advanced to the 1/16 finals after she came in 28th place and earned the last spot to the next stage in the qualifying round.

Muhammad Ridwan and Nurul Izzah Izzati will return in action today in men’s sprint and women’s keirin, respectively.
