PETALING JAYA, April 18 (Bernama) -- The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) expects to conduct about 400 cases of business matching at the 17th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention (WCEC) which will be held from Sept 9-11, 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Its president Senator Tan Sri Low Kian Chuan said the focus industries for the business matching include food and agriculture, automobile, electric vehicles, consumer products, intelligent industry and information technology, medical equipment and healthcare, as well as services.

"The WCEC is a flagship convention that gathers Chinese business leaders and entrepreneurs worldwide, government leaders and private sector representatives.

"This convention will be a catalyst to spark innovative business partnerships and regional collaboration," he told reporters after the WCEC media briefing here today.

This is the second time Malaysia is hosting the event with the first being the 7th WCEC in 2003.

Low, who is also the WCEC organising committee chairman, said the convention is expected to attract at least 1,500 local business leaders and 3,000 overseas delegates from Asia, North America, Europe, South America, Oceania, Middle East and Africa.

"This convention also provides an opportunity to showcase Malaysia's boundless business opportunities and its allure status as Asia's multi-diverse wonderland, particularly as we gear up for the Visit Malaysia Year 2026," he added.

ACCCIM deputy president Datuk Ng Yih Pyng said the 17th WCEC themed “Reimagineering the Future" aims to revolutionise current and future trends and dynamics that shape the global economic and business landscape.

"It also showcases Malaysia’s investment story in ASEAN. Among the thematic topics include trends and insights for tomorrow and advancing technology such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green investment, investment gateway to ASEAN, and China’s economic development in the new era.

"Other topics of interest are tech influencers, social responsibility advocacy and young entrepreneurship," he said.

Ng said WCEC is also targetting to foster stronger connections between potential investors and the growing investment landscape in Malaysia and the region.

"We want to empower delegates to share experiences, discuss current and future challenges, explore development opportunities and foster corporations,” he said, adding that there will be more than 100 booths during the convention.

Exhibitions, site visits, study tours and post-convention business missions are among the range of activities.
