IPOH, April 19 (Bernama) -- The Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) of Perak has urged more self-employed workers in the state to contribute to the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS).

Perak Perkeso director V Mohanadas said that, so far, there are about 17,429 people in the state who are contributing under the SKSPS and registered under the Self-Employment Social Security Act 2017(Act 789).

"Last year, we targeted 14,000 contributors but registered 16,600, including farmers, fishermen, traders and hawkers, while as of March this year, 829 have registered.

"The Federal government has provided space for the self-employed to contribute with Perkeso as a safety measure so that their families are covered should any untoward incidents occur when they (the contributors) go to work,” he said.

He told Bernama this during the Perak Perkeso Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House at Wisma Perkeso near here today.

Mohanadas added that Perak Perkeso has also intensified the campaign to encourage housewives to contribute to the Housewives' Social Security Scheme (SKSSR).

"Last year, we got 12,630 housewives to contribute (to SKSSR) and this year we are targeting 7,251 people for new registration and 2,788 housewives to renew their contributions.

"Housewives can contribute by just paying RM120, their beneficiary will receive a 'penakat’ pension of RM300 a month and RM2,000 for funeral arrangements,” he said.

He said that registration for the scheme is simple because housewives need not produce any documents to prove that they are not working.

"There is no minimum age for registering for the SKSSR. Just that the maximum age for registering for this scheme is 55 and (open) to those aged 18 and above.

"Other than that, housewives who are registered under e-kasih are fully covered by the government. Don't miss the opportunity to register as a contributor,” he said.
