NEW YORK, April 20 (Bernama-IRNA) -- Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian discussed the ongoing conflict in Gaza and explored potential solutions to the crisis during a meeting with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres in New York.

The discussions occurred alongside the UN Security Council's quarterly debate on West Asia, including the situation in Palestine, reported the Islamic Republic of News Agency (IRNA).

Amirabdollahian emphasised that resolving the crisis in Gaza was a central theme during his engagements with various international figures, including the President of the UN Security Council (UNSC) and leaders from several global institutions.

He highlighted the focus of these discussions on finding effective resolutions to the conflict.

In his conversations with UN officials, the minister reiterated Iran’s position that escalating the conflict benefits no party involved.

He pointed out the need for a political approach to resolve the issues, including the cessation of hostilities and addressing the Israeli regime's actions in Gaza.

He proposed that the UN Secretary-General consider a comprehensive political strategy that encompasses key issues such as the exchange of captives, the withdrawal of forces from Gaza and an increase in humanitarian assistance to the area.

Amirabdollahian also referenced discussions about Iran's recent military response to an Israeli attack on its consulate in Syria, during both the Security Council debate and in sideline meetings.

He expressed Iran's stance on the retaliation and cautioned against further escalations by Israel.
