SCIENTEX AIMS TO BUILD 50,000 AFFORDABLE HOUSING UNITS BY 2028

20/04/2024 09:00 PM

TASEK GELUGOR, April 20 (Bernama) -- Property developer Scientex Bhd aims to provide a total of 50,000 units of quality housing units at affordable prices nationwide by 2028.

Scientex project general manager (property division) Tang Song Teik said that so far, the company has handed over 35,062 affordable housing units, with about 70 per cent of them sold at prices below RM300,000.

“The function of a home is not only to provide shelter or a place to live but also to strengthen family ties and foster a healthy lifestyle, as espoused by Scientex's slogan of 'Healthy, Friendly and Happy',” he said in a speech at the offer letter handover ceremony for Scientex Sungai Dua Housing Project at Scientex Sungai Dua Sales Gallery here, today.

During the ceremony, a total of 31 individuals were handed the offer letter by the Penang Housing and Environment Executive Councillor (Exco) Datuk Seri S Sundarajoo and the Penang State Housing Development Board enforcement officer (LPNPP) Nadzifah Abd Rahim.

Tang said Scientex Sungai Dua, which is located in Seberang Perai Utara district, is the second mixed development project in Penang after Scientex Tasek Gelugor.

He said the development on the 138-hectare freehold land included the construction of 5,760 property units comprising two-storey terraced houses, shop offices, recreational parks, and multi-purpose halls, as well as schools, markets, mosques and other community facilities.

The company would work with the state government to explore more land so that more affordable houses can be built for the people, in line with both Scientex's commitment and the state government's agenda, said Tang.

He said Scientex’s property development started in 1995 in Pasir Gudang, and until today, the company has acquired 3,729 hectares of land in 31 main locations.

Tang noted that Scientex has also expanded its business reach from Johor to Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Perak, Penang, and Kedah, with the aim of providing affordable housing for Malaysians.

“Scientex has since expanded to Bangkok, Thailand and Jakarta, Indonesia through a joint venture project to penetrate the affordable housing market abroad,” he said.

Meanwhile, praising Scientex’s efforts, Sundarajoo said that the state government was very concerned about the housing problems and needs in Penang.

Hence, he said the state government would try to apply for more allocations from the Federal government to build more affordable homes for the people in the state.
