PUTRAJAYA, April 22 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education of Indonesia (BAN-PT) to strengthen ties and enhance focused cooperation between the two agencies.

MQA chief executive officer Prof Datuk Dr Mohammad Shatar Sabran said the MoU enables officers from both agencies to exchange inputs and views, implement benchmarking initiatives and share procedures and responsibilities related to quality assurance more effectively.

“In terms of capacity building, this MoU will provide opportunities for officers to participate in staff exchange programmes and further strengthen cooperation in quality assurance and accreditation activities in the future.

“This cooperation is expected to strengthen MQA’s position as a global authority in higher education quality assurance with internationally recognised quality assurance system,” he told the media here today.

Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud was also present to witness the MoU signing ceremony and launch the Electronic MQA Accreditation System (e-MAS).

Also in attendance were Higher Education Ministry deputy secretary-general (policy) Datuk Dr Megat Sany Megat Ahmad, Higher Education director-general Prof Dr Azlinda Azman, MQA Council chairman Tan Sri Mohd Adib Abd Rahman and BAN-PT Executive Council director Prof Dr Ari Purbayanto.

Commenting on e-MAS, Mohammad Shatar said the system’s launch was in line with the government’s digitalisation agenda and MQA’s Strategic Planning 2021-2025 through Strategic Thrust 3 (Effective Delivery Supported by Resource Sustainability).

He said the new system integrates all accreditation management modules to create an integrated platform for providing the best service delivery to higher education stakeholders.

“One of the advantages of e-MAS is transforming the existing processes into digital ones. This enables all programme accreditation applications to be submitted online, accessible 24/7. This also facilitates faster, more systematic, and real-time accreditation processes.

“The system has passed the testing phase and today marks the commencement of its pilot programme involving 10 higher learning institutions as e-MAS partners,” he said.
