KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur City (KL City) staged a comeback to draw 2-2 against the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) FC despite Video Assistant Referee (VAR) disallowing two goals for the squad in a pre-season friendly match at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium here tonight.
PDRM, coached by P. Maniam, drew first blood when Ifedayo Olusegun Patrick scored off a pass from Mohd Safiee Ahmad in the 25th minute.
KL City, who were thought to have equalised in the second half, were disappointed when referee Ahmad Zuhadi Dzulkifli decided to disallow the goal after analysing VAR footage, finding Lazar Sajcic offside.
There was more frustration for KL City when Ifedayo doubled the position in the 50th minute for the Sang Saka Biru squad before the referee, who examined the VAR, disallowed The City Boys' second goal scored by Sean Giannelli due to a foul in the buildup.
However, the team led by Miroslav Kuljanac managed to equalise before the final whistle through Paulo Josue in the 95th minute and Patrick Alacala Reichel in the 99th minute.
KL City finished seventh in the 2023 Super League season, collecting 38 points, while PDRM finished eighth with 37 points.
The Malaysian Football League (MFL) previously decided to use VAR in eight pre-season matches from April 22 to May 4 to test the system to be used for the 2024/2025 Super League season, which begins on May 10.
