CIVIL SERVANTS RELIEVED WITH SALARY INCREASE AFTER 12-YEAR WAIT – SABAH CUEPACS

02/05/2024 09:17 PM

KOTA KINABALU, May 2 (Bernama) -- A salary increase of more than 13 per cent has given relief to civil servants who are burdened with rising prices of goods and cost of living in Sabah.

Sabah Congress of Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) chairman Ajulahin Japin said the 12-year wait for civil servants in the state ended with the good news announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday.

“We need to thank the Prime Minister for this announcement. This represents one of the highest increases. The proposal presented by CUEPACS and the results of several sessions involving the study of the Public Service Renumeration System (SSPA), with the Public Service Department (PSD), are expected to be implemented soon.” he said when contacted by Bernama.

“The minimum wage (set for civil servants) of not less than RM2,000 is also close to the living wage benchmark set by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) which is RM2,700. We hope the government will always monitor this because the living wage has also increased."

At the Labour Day 2024 national level celebration in Putrajaya yesterday, Anwar announced the increase which is among the highest and best in the country’s history involving an allocation of over RM10 million.

Anwar said that under the SSPA which is being detailed, the government will also increase the salary to ensure that the minimum income of civil servants exceeds RM2,000 per month compared to the current minimum income, covering salaries and fixed allowances of civil servants which is RM1,795 per month.
