M'SIA MAINTAINS STAND OF NOT ALLOWING ISRAELI COMPANIES TO OPERATE IN THE COUNTRY - ANWAR

07/05/2024 06:05 PM

PUTRAJAYA, May 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia remains steadfast in its position not to allow any company registered in Israel to conduct any activities in this country, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister stressed that no Israeli company has been permitted to enter or operate in the country since the unity government took over the administration of the country.

"None; we do not allow it. Remember, in 2002, the one who allowed Israeli ships to enter was Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad when he was prime minister.

"That (permission) was continued until we cancelled it; that's our stance," Anwar told reporters after the launch of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2024-2028 here today.

He was commenting on Dr Mahathir's call for the government to immediately expel two companies allegedly supplying weapons to the Zionist regime's military, namely Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems, which are participating in the Defence Services Asia (DSA) and NATSEC Asia 2024 exhibitions in the Malaysian capital.

The three-day DSA and NASTEC Asia 2024 exhibitions began yesterday at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur.

Dr Mahathir, in a post on his social media page, urged the Ministry of Defence to order these two arms supply companies to leave the country immediately.

He said both companies are the largest arms suppliers to the Zionist regime, which has been attacking and bombing the Palestinian people since Oct 7 last year.

Dr Mahathir said allowing such companies to be present would make a mockery of the country’s efforts in opposing the atrocities committed by the Tel Aviv regime.
