MELAKA, May 15 (Bernama) -- Chinese tourists continue to contribute to the boom in tourist arrivals to Melaka, especially in conjunction with the Visit Melaka Year 2024 (VMY 2024).

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said a total of 116,055 Chinese tourists visited Melaka from January to April.

"The state government is targeting at least one million Chinese tourists to come to Melaka after the Free Visa Policy is enforced.

Apart from the various interesting tourist attractions in Melaka such as Jonker Walk, Bukit Cina, Stadthuys, Sam Poh Temple, Baba Nyonya Museum and Cheng Ho Museum, Melaka also offers itself as a food paradise," he said through a post on his official Facebook page today.

In the meantime, Ab Rauf said the state government agreed to create a Melaka-China Friendship Park at Bukit Cina here, thus bringing back the nostalgia of the friendship between Melaka and China that has been established in the past 600 years.

Earlier, he attended an interview session with Bernama TV and China Global Television Network CGTN (CGTN) at his office in Seri Negeri today.

The interview was conducted by Bernama TV broadcasting journalist Nor Liyana Zulkifli and Chen Tong from CGTN.

Malaysia officially established diplomatic relations with China on May 31, 1974, thus becoming the first ASEAN country to extend a hand of friendship to Beijing.
