Madani Village Community Committee To Help Gov’t Eradicate Poverty - Bung Moktar

17/05/2024 10:58 PM

KOTA KINABALU, May 17 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Village Community Committee is among the initial measures to help the Federal government’s efforts to eradicate poverty in rural areas, especially in Sabah, said Kinabatangan Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

Bung Moktar, also the Lamag state assemblyman, said the committee, among others, plays the role of coordinating socioeconomic programmes for the people, including providing education and entrepreneurial skills to assist targeted groups in generating income and, thereby, reduce the rate of poverty in Sabah.

He said over 2,400 individuals from 32 out of 73 state constituencies in Sabah have been appointed to activate the roles of the relevant committees in their respective areas, so far.

“Our specific goal is to help Sabah reduce hardcore poverty. The MADANI Village Community Committee does not overlap with the tasks of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK)," he told reporters after presenting the committee appointment letters here today.

Bung Moktar, also Sabah UMNO Liaison Committee chairman, said the JKKK is responsible for the management and administration of villages while the MADANI Village Community Committee coordinates socio-economic and entrepreneurial programmes in the villages involved.

On May 9, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, handed over the appointment letter of the MADANI Village Community Committee to Bung Moktar on behalf of the committee's 132 chairmen and secretaries from 66 villages here.
