GEORGE TOWN, May 18 (Bernama) -- Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery (BNM MAG) is giving the public the opportunity to learn about the world of finance as well as the monetary history of Penang, in conjunction with the 2024 International Museum Day (IMD) Festival.

Its director, Noreen Zulkepli said through their special exhibition booth (at the festival), themed ‘School of Financial Magic: Discover the Secrets of Financial Management', her team will help educate visitors regardless of age on mastering financial management to help a person's life for the better.

"Visitors can learn how to identify and avoid financial fraud; to obtain basic understanding of the overnight policy rate (OPR); and learn practical tips to manage finances wisely," she told Bernama.

Meanwhile, the booth has been divided into four sections comprising Penang's rich monetary history; how to spot and avoid financial scams; money management; and a showcase of 38 works of art produced by 20 artists from Penang.

Additionally, she said BNM MAG also held the ‘MAG Day Out’ programme to give exposure to the ringgit and financial literacy to students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas (SMKPK) Bumbong Limain, Kepala Batas yesterday.

She said it involved two activities namely the educational programme ‘Kenali Wang Kertas Anda’ for Form Four students and a batik colouring activity with paper money elements for Form One and Two students.

Meanwhile, BNM MAG education division executive Mohd Faiz Naim Hassan said his team will explain about the security features of money including using UV rays to check banknotes.

"We will also talk interactively about the safety features of money. If we look at blind students, the way they detect banknotes is through touch, which is the same technique to identify the authenticity of money."

The 2024 IMD Festival is being held from now (May 13) to May 22 at the Dewan Sri Pinang here. It sees the participation of 38 agencies, institutions and museums, and is expected to attract 200,000 physical and online visitors.
