Bernama Chief Executive Officer, Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said that besides enhancing the fitness levels of the staff amidst their busy schedules, all these sports clubs are also hoped will help foster closer relationships among them.

"I see, besides the health aspect, it's an opportunity for us, as colleagues, to strengthen our bonds. That's what we want to instill. Besides excelling at work, we also need to foster closer ties among us," she said at the news agency's anniversary celebration at Wisma Bernama, here.

The sports clubs launched today are the Bernama Football Club, Bernama Netball Club, Bernama Bowling Club, Bernama Volleyball Club, Bernama Badminton Club and Bernama Bikers Club.

During the event, Nur-ul Afida also announced a one-off allocation of RM1,000 to each of these clubs, which fall under the Bernama Staff Club, to encourage the organisation of sports activities.

She also presented prizes and tokens of appreciation to 12 participants of the competition to create the logo for Bernama's 57th anniversary, the winner of which was Mohd Fadli Abdul Hadi from the Corporate Affairs Division.

Meanwhile, Nur-ul Afida emphasised that Bernama staff need to strive to enhance their capabilities in adapting to current technology usage, such as artificial intelligence, in carrying out their duties to ensure Bernama remains trustworthy and capable of delivering higher-quality news content.

"It's not just in the Editorial Department, we are also enhancing technological advancements in other sections of Bernama. We want every division and department in Bernama to move in line with current technological developments," she said.

Bernama was established under an Act of Parliament on April 6, 1967 and officially launched on Aug 30, 1967 in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the country’s independence. The news agency began operations on May 20, 1968.
