Port Dickson Set To Become Osh Hub For Ecotourism Sector

SEREMBAN, May 21 (Bernama) --  The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) plans to establish Port Dickson as a regional occupational safety and health (OSH) hub for the tourism sector.

Its vice-chairman, G. Manivanan, said Port Dickson’s strategic location makes it an ideal site for the new NIOSH office and training centre.

“NIOSH has identified several suitable locations to open the OSH training centre in Port Dickson.

“We are not only looking at the potential within the country but also aiming to make it a leading ecotourism OSH training hub in the ASEAN region and globally,” he said in a statement today.

He added that NIOSH’s aspiration aligns with the Negeri Sembilan government’s plan to implement 59 projects to drive the development of Port Dickson as an international tourism destination.

According to Manivanan, NIOSH, as a training provider under the Human Resource Ministry, has developed training modules for the ecotourism sector, including hospitality, travel agencies, lifeguards, water sports and extreme sports.

He said that NIOSH Certification Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the agency, also offers the internationally recognised Adventure Tourism Safety Management System Certification (ATSMS).

“NIOSH will also enhance cooperation with strategic partners in several countries to ensure that its ecotourism OSH courses and certifications are recognised not only in Malaysia but also internationally,” he said.

Among the international organisations that have established partnerships with NIOSH are NIOSH USA, the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health UK, the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Japan, and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency.
