KUCHING, May 26 (Bernama) -- The unique way the artefacts at Borneo Cultures Museum are displayed and the use of interactive technology have captivated over 70 media practitioners attending the National Journalists' Day 2024 (HAWANA 2024) celebration here.

Participants of the 'Juh Raon' sightseeing programme seemed amazed by the attractions and uniqueness showcased at the second-largest museum in Southeast Asia.

Astro Awani journalist Shuhada Kadir, 32, described the tour at the museum as akin to entering a time tunnel, which allowed her to witness the evolution of human settlement in Sarawak since the Palaeolithic era.

"I have keen interest on things related to history, customs and the like. The narrative arrangement at this museum is also very neat and I've learned a lot today," she told Bernama.

Her peer from TV3, Kumaran Rajamoney, 39, said that the rare interactive feature makes the experience more engaging.

"I managed to try the interactive experience that made me feel like being in the Niah Cave, among other things, with its visual display that I have not experienced in any other museum," he added.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) News Service Executive Editor Mohd Haikal Mohd Isa said the three-hour visit was an eye-opener for media practitioners, allowing them to understand Sarawak better, especially the out-of-state journalists.

"The collections and presentation of exhibition materials and artefacts, such as ceramics from the Ming Dynasty and Japan, are also excellent and of international standard.

"The display also indirectly indicate that Sarawak has been the focal point for foreign traders since ancient times," he said.

Through the 'Juh Raon' programme, which is part of the HAWANA 2024 celebration, participants visited iconic locations such as the Darul Hana Bridge and Dataran Ibu Pertiwi before being feted at the English Tea House.

Themed 'Etika Teras Kewartawanan Mapan' HAWANA 2024 kicked off yesterday and will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tomorrow.
