KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) -- Technology and talent digitalisation company AwanBiru Technology Bhd (Awantec) has lauded technology giant Google’s US$2 billion (RM9.4 billion) investment in Malaysia, marking a significant step towards the country's digital transformation.
As an authorised Google Cloud partner, Awantec is excited to bring advanced artificial intelligence (AI) to its customers, said chief executive officer Azlan Zainal Abidin in a statement today.
“This investment will enhance Google’s services and empower Malaysian enterprises, startups, and public sector organisations to innovate and grow.
“Google’s investment aligns with Malaysia’s ‘Cloud First Policy’ and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, fostering a robust talent ecosystem and enhancing digital skills through initiatives like the Gemini Academy and Experience AI programmes,” he said.
Azlan said the development supports the company’s strategic goal, as Awantec is currently already providing Google solutions to customers especially to the government and Ministry of Education (MoE).
“Google’s commitment to fostering AI literacy through programmes like Gemini Academy and Experience AI is crucial for preparing educators and students for the future,” he said.
Furthermore, he noted that these initiatives are aligned with the MoE’s National Digital Education Policy, making digital skills more accessible across Malaysia.
“Since November 2023, the Gemini Academy has benefitted over 600 educators, with plans to expand to 15,000 by the end of 2024. Meanwhile, the Experience AI programme aims to train 1,000 educators, reaching 10,000 students nationwide,” said Azlan.
Awantec also earned the Gemini for Google Workspace Partner Ambassador Status, providing clients, particularly in the education, healthcare and public sectors, with expert guidance, enhanced workflows, and future-proof solutions, he said.
“As we continue delivering AI-powered solutions, we look forward to supporting our clients in leveraging Google’s technologies, driving economic growth, attracting investments, and positioning Malaysia as a global digital economy leader,” he added.
Yesterday, it was reported that Google’s investment included the development of its first data centre in Malaysia and the Google Cloud region to meet the growing demand for cloud services, both locally and globally, as well as an AI literacy programme for students and educators in this country.
Google said its investment is estimated to support more than US$3.2 billion (RM15.04 billion) in positive economic impact and 26,500 jobs by 2030.
