KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) — The International Sourcing Programme (INSP) organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), held in conjunction with the SEMICON Southeast Asia (SEA) 2024 event here, wrapped up yesterday with Malaysia standing out among the major regional players in the semiconductor industry.

MATRADE and its strategic partners, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida), the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and MRANTI collaborated in undertaking various engagement programmes at the Malaysia Sourcing Pavilion, facilitating meetings and pitching with foreign partners to tap into export opportunities around the world.

“The global players from the semiconductor industry were keen to work with Malaysian companies to expand their supplier base,” it said in a statement.

Bustling with visitors from May 28-30, the Malaysia Sourcing Pavilion featured 25 tech companies, with diverse competencies in robotics, factory automation, drone tech, health tech and autonomous vehicles.

A total of 25 foreign companies from Taiwan, China, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Bangladesh, Germany, Lebanon, Hong Kong and South Africa registered in this year’s INSP edition, including 10 of them which joined virtually.

In total, 196 business meetings took place throughout the three-day event between Malaysian companies and foreign counterparts, resulting in RM331.21 million worth of business deals.

Among products and services sourced include cleanroom gloves, machinery and equipment for the semiconductor industry, automated test equipment (ATE), precision parts andcomponents, electronics manufacturing services (EMS), system integration for factory automation, cables and wire harness, and battery energy storage system (BESS).

MATRADE chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said MATRADE’s strategic alliances with MIDA, MDEC and MRANTI this year were indeed timely, in efforts to strengthen Malaysian companies' participation in the global E&E supply chain.

“MATRADE will continue bridging Malaysian companies in the E&E sector with foreign partners through various initiatives such as this,” he said.

Held for the ninth-consecutive time since 2015, the INSP@SEMICON SEA is a high-impact and a cost-effective initiative, proven at connecting Malaysian companies within the electrical & electronics industry ecosystem to the world’s semiconductor manufacturing companies and international equipment giants.

Meanwhile, MDEC chief executive officer Mahadhir Aziz said MDEC, in partnership with MATRADE and MRANTI, showcased 15 outstanding Malaysian technology companies at the Malaysia Sourcing Pavilion at SEMICON SEA 2024. “This collaboration exemplified the spirit of the Malaysia Digital national strategic effort, enabling an environment where collective knowledge drives quick reactions to emerging trends, and digital transformation opens unparalleled prospects for development and innovation,” he said.

Echoing the significance of concerted effort with MATRADE and MDEC, MRANTI’s participation at SEMICON SEA 2024 goes beyond showcasing the latest advancements, MRANTI chief executive officer Datuk Dr Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff said.

“We were demonstrating how our focus on key technologies like DroneTech, Robotics, HealthTech and Autonomous Vehicles is truly transforming the future of semiconductors.

“As Malaysia’s national testbed for 5G innovation, we leverage these cutting-edge solutions to enhance connectivity and automation, ultimately propelling the industry forward’,” he said.
