KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia University Football Team (MUFT) created a sensation when they stunned PDRM FC 3-0 in a round-of-16 match of the FA Cup competition at the Selayang Stadium, near here, tonight.
MUFT opened accounts after just five minutes when striker Rahman Shah Marajeh let fly a screamer from outside the box before teammate Muhammad Hadi Mohamad doubled their lead four minutes later.
PDRM, coached by P. Maniam, tried to get back into the game in the second-half and came close to narrowing the deficit in the 75th minute but midfielder Shafizi Iqmal Md Khirudin's freekick could only rattle the crossbar.
That close call woke MUFT up and coach Ridzuan Abu Samah's men duly made it 3-0 through substitute Muhammad Zharif Nazhan Refli in injury time to knock out their more illustrious opponents.
With the win, MUFT have confirmed their place in the quarter-finals, with the first leg on June 28 and the return leg on July 4.
Four more round-of-16 matches will be played on Friday (June 14) and three on Saturday (June 15).
