PATTANI, June 16 (Bernama) -- The Thesaban public market in Southern Thailand’s Pattani Province today became the focal point for Muslims to obtain basic necessities and groceries ahead of the Aidiladha celebration tomorrow.

Observations found that the public, especially residents of Pattani and nearby areas, began visiting the market as early as 5 am to purchase groceries such as chicken, fish, coconut milk, various types of vegetables, and ketupat for the festive preparations.

A ketupat seller at the Thesaban market, Syaipah Madilah, 65, said her family has been making ketupat palas for the past 20 years and always receives good demand during the Hari Raya celebrations.

"Every Hari Raya Haji, around 10,000 ketupat are sold… some have been pre-ordered. However, during the Hari Raya Puasa season, the number of ketupat orders can reach up to 15,000 pieces,” she told Bernama here on Sunday.

She said her ketupat is sold at a price of 350 baht per 100 pieces.

Additionally, a market visitor, Adul Abdul Hafez, 48, said that every time he celebrates Hari Raya, he always visits this market for shopping in preparation for the festive season.

"I like to visit this market because the festive necessities are always complete. I will buy ketupat, coconut milk, chicken, and groceries for the family for Hari Raya Aidiladha," he said.

Last Friday, Thailand’s Sheikhul Islam, Arun Boonchom, announced that Muslims will celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha on June 17.
