MOSCOW, June 16 (Bernama-Sputnik) - Police opened fire on a man wielding a roofer's hammer during a march of Dutch football fans in Hamburg, Germany, on Sunday, according to reports from German media cited by Sputnik.
The incident occurred when the man lunged at police officers at 12:30 local time (10:30 GMT), ahead of the Euro 2024 group stage match between the Netherlands and Poland, as reported by Bild newspaper.
According to the report, police officers initially used pepper spray against the attacker and subsequently fired their firearms. The man collapsed after several shots were fired, the newspaper stated. He is currently receiving treatment in the hospital, and his life is not in danger.
His motives remain unknown, Bild reported.
