KUCHING, June 17 (Bernama) -- Sarawak will introduce a mechanism to control livestock prices next year, announced Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He stated that the price of cattle in Sarawak is relatively high compared to other states in Malaysia.

"I have a plan to control the price of cattle and other livestock next year... I will announce it later.

"I understand that today, 88 livestock were sacrificed, most of which were cows. Despite the higher prices compared to other places, Muslims here are still able to fulfill their sacrificial rites," he said.

He made the statement after the Korban Perdana event organised by the Sarawak Islamic Council at Dewan Hikmah, which was also attended by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

Earlier, Abang Johari officiated a symbolic slaughtering of three cows, which were distributed to 100 asnaf recipients in the Kuching area.

In Kuching, 63 locations, including mosques, suraus, and registered agencies, conducted sacrificial events, with the meat distributed to 1,240 recipients.
