SIGNING OF 14 MOUS BETWEEN M'SIA, CHINA A COMPREHENSIVE MOVE - PMOBOR

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- The move to establish cooperation in various fields between Malaysia and China through the signing of 14 memorandums of understanding (MoU) has been described as comprehensive and strategic.

One Belt One Road Association (PMOBOR) president Datuk Iskandar Sarudin said the MoUs will benefit the development of the country’s economic potential and improve research and education.

“Malaysia and China have been very concerned over recent developments for the past decade and the signing of these 14 MoUs is a step toward in addressing gaps in this relationship,” he said while appearing as a guest on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara programme tonight.

Iskandar hoped that Malaysia would foster cooperation with China in the halal industry, which is Malaysia’s trademark and strength.

“The potential of the halal industry is immense….there maybe sensitivities from a religious standpoint regarding this topic, but it should be viewed from the perspective of trade, employment and economy to ensure it benefits both countries,” he said.

The 14 MoUs include cooperation involving the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry to strengthen investments in the digital economy and promote investment cooperation in green development.

For the Home Ministry, the cooperation involves preventing and combatting transnational crimes, while the Communications Ministry will join forces with China Media Group to solidify the media sector.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang began his official visit to Malaysia on Tuesday, which concluded today.

It marked his inaugural visit to the country since assuming office in March 2023.

His visit also coincides with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations following the signing of the Joint Communiqué between second Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein and then Chinese Premier Chou En Lai on May 31, 1974.
