BURSA MALAYSIA STAYS HIGHER IN SYNC WITH MOST REGIONAL MARKETS

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia stayed higher at midday, in line with most regional markets’ performance ahead of the United States (US) inflation data, said an analyst. 

At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 0.19 per cent or 2.96 points to 1,587.9  from Thursday's close of 1,584.94.

The benchmark index had opened 1.41 points weaker at 1,583.53 and moved between 1,581.52 and 1,588.57 throughout the morning session.

On the broader market, gainers surpassed decliners 521 to 390, while 471 counters were unchanged, 1,031 untraded, and 45 others suspended.

Turnover amounted to 2.43 billion units worth RM1.29 billion.

Stockbroking firm Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd said traders will be watching the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) data that will be released later tonight for further clarity on the Federal Reserve’s direction moving forward. 

“Back home, we believe there will be opportunities to position for mid-to-long run under the technology sector driven by the data, artificial intelligence and cloud services catalysts.

“We also believe the construction and building materials segments are ripe for extension of their upward move respectively," it said in a note. 

Meanwhile, the renewable energy segment will be a long-term sector under the National Energy Transition Roadmap, it said. 

Among the heavyweights, Maybank eased two sen to RM9.94, Tenaga Nasional dropped 18 sen to RM13.76, Sime Darby added one sen RM2.62 and YTL increased six sen to RM3.45, while CIMB was flat at RM6.77.

As for the actives, Borneo Oil and Trive Property inched up half-a-sen to one sen and 6.5 sen, MY E.G. gained three sen to RM1, YNH Property notched up four sen to 53.5 sen and Ingenieur Gudang slipped half-a-sen to 5.5 sen. 

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index increased 35.68 points to 12,196.52, the FBMT 100 Index improved 32.84 points to 11,780.38, the FBM Emas Shariah Index garnered 38.89 points to 12,535.13, the FBM 70 Index climbed 89.79 points to 17,809.94, and the FBM ACE Index edged up 23.26 points to 5,712.24.

Sector-wise, the Energy Index inched up 5.59 points to 955.21, the Industrial Products and Services Index grew by 0.58 of-a-point to 195.83, the Plantation Index advanced 30.86 points to 6,981.68, and the Financial Services Index bagged 1.52 points to 17,421.84.
