Bam Conveys Condolences To Family Of Former Badminton Official Yap Tee Loy

KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (Bernama) -- The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has conveyed its condolences to the family of former badminton official, Yap Tee Loy, who died yesterday at the age of 83.

The BAM shared on a Facebook post today that Yap, who was affectionately known as ‘Uncle Yap’, had served as Kuala Lumpur Badminton Association (KLBA) honorary secretary from 1986 to 1997 under Datuk Punch Gunalan.

“The BAM extends its deepest condolences to Yap’s family, friends, and colleagues. His contributions to badminton will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Uncle Yap,” the post read.

Yap was also a senior badminton technical official, and served as an umpire and referee in major international tournaments, including the Olympics, the Asian Games, the South East Asian (SEA) Games, along with events byy Badminton World Federation, Badminton Asia and BAM, in a career that spanned four decades.

In 2000, Yap joined BAM as Tournament Manager and officer-in-charge of BAM Technical Officials, a position he held until 2009.
