JAKARTA , July 6 (Bernama-Antara) -- The presence of digitally capable leaders is of essence to support the implementation of digital transformation aimed at digitising bureaucratic activities, according to Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), Nezar Patria, reported Indonesian News Agency (Antara).

"Digital leadership is vital, and we should pay attention to it. The Kominfo Ministry has been striving to enhance the capacity of leaders in the public and private sectors to support digital transformation," he said in a press release here on Saturday.

Speaking virtually at a national leadership training event held by the State Administration Institution (LAN) on Friday (July 5), Patria said that a digitised government can help bureaucrats offer public services in a more efficient, inclusive, transparent and accountable manner.

On that note, he emphasised the importance of producing leaders capable of making decisions based on data.

"As the world becomes more and more digitised, the need for knowledge about big data, computing, and artificial intelligence is becoming inevitable."

He highlighted the ministry had devised the Digital Leadership Academy (DLA) programme in collaboration with renowned universities, such as the University of Cambridge and Harvard Kennedy School.

"This programme is expected to produce more leaders capable of formulating policies, initiating digital innovations, and boosting the competitiveness of Indonesia's digital economy," he remarked.

The DLA programme offers training courses in a range of fields, such as business digitisation, cybersecurity, and governance. As of 2024, a total of 1,236 people have enrolled in the programme.

Patria then praised LAN for organising the national leadership training event that is expected to facilitate its participants to exchange ideas and collaborate to augment their digital leadership skills.

"All these efforts are aimed at actualising national digital transformation, which has been designated as a national programme. As the world keeps moving forward, we cannot afford to go back."
