Sg Bakap By-election: Five Sk Sungai Duri Alumni Reunite To Vote

NIBONG TEBAL, July 6 (Bernama) -- A young first-time voter at today's Sungai Bakap by-election was thrilled to reunite with four long-lost school friends at their alma mater Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Duri, which turned out to be their polling centre. 

Hana Humaira Yusrizal, 19, said she was so excited she rose at 6 am to gather at a meeting point with her friends and head to the polling centre together.  

"Yes, I studied here since Standard One. So I am excited this is my first polling centre. Some of my friends are studying elsewhere now, and it’s wonderful that we could all reunite here," the Form Six student told reporters after casting her vote.

She arrived at the school at 9 am with her close friends Nur Afiqah Syamimi Mohd Zaidi, Farah Farhana Azhar, Nur Athirah Mohd Zahid, and Amirah Syakirah Arfeni. 

For Farah Farhana, seeing the indelible ink mark on her finger was a momentous occasion she will always remember. 

"I was both excited and nervous entering the voting booth," she said, expressing hope that youngsters like her can elect capable leaders to lead the country toward progress.

The Sungai Bakap by-election witnessed a head-to-head contest between Pakatan Harapan candidate Dr. Joohari Ariffin and Perikatan Nasional candidate Abidin Ismail, following the death of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24 due to abdominal inflammation.
