KUANTAN, July 7  (Bernama) -- The unique blend of traditional arts,  culture and heritage of Kelantan and Terengganu enlivened the MADANI Rakyat (PMR) 2024 East Zone Programme at Dataran Sayangi Kuantan here, showcasing the rich traditions of both states under one roof.

Notably, the South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar) and the Central Terengganu Development Authority (Ketengah) booths, both under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKDW), delighted the audience with cultural performances from their respective states.

Kesedar deputy general manager (Development) Mohd Fadhly Ab Manaf, said the agency presented four cultural performances from Kelantan, namely dikir barat, gasing terbang (spinning tops), rebana ubi (traditional drums) and traditional dances.

"We are thrilled as this is Kesedar's first promotional event in Kuantan. Each performance draws a large crowd eager to experience the arts and culture of Kelantan," he told Bernama.

Mohd Fadhly added that visitors also had the opportunity to view exhibitions of gasing (spinning tops), wau-making (traditional kites) and rural tourism promotions by Kesedar Hotel Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd.

Meanwhile, Ketengah showcased traditional gamelan and dance performances with songs such as Patendu Patende, Tikar Seludang, Watimang Landak, and Joget To Je Towok.

Its economic and entrepreneurship manager Mohd Faiq Mohd Abd Majid highlighted various engaging activities including congkak games, batik painting and mengkuang weaving demonstrations.

He added that visitors could explore Kenyir Lake through virtual reality, experiencing the kelah sanctuary, herbal garden and lake houseboats.

“We're also promoting Desa MADANI Ketengah with products from village entrepreneurs like hand woven mengkuang, batik and traditional food. There's also a food valley highlighting items from Ketengah entrepreneurs, such as bananas, mushrooms and black pepper.

"Despite the cloudy weather and slight drizzle, visitors continued to participate in our activities," he said.

The three-day PMR 2024 East Zone, which ends today, is part of the MADANI Government's year-long programme extended statewide to help communities understand and assess the federal government’s new policies and initiatives aimed at improving the people’s well-being.

The programme is organised by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) through the Performance Acceleration and Coordination Unit (PACU) in collaboration with KKDW and the Pahang government.
