KUCHING, July 7 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the state's 'hijrah' (migration) efforts have been receiving attention and recognition from the world, particularly for its governance, which emphasises environmental sustainability.
He said that foreign countries often invite him to share Sarawak's approach to managing the environment, which benefits humanity and the world.
“We ‘migrated’ to a new way to address today's global challenges, such as climate change and food safety. Next month, I am going to Sydney, Australia, to give a lecture on Sarawak's environmental management, insya-Allah.
“Last month, I was in Poland, then Bangkok, Thailand. Insya-Allah, after Sydney, I will go to Hong Kong. Both Muslims and non-Muslims migrate towards betterment together,” he said in his speech at the Maal Hijrah 1446H/2024M celebration, here today.
Also present at the gathering were Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
Abang Johari said that the Madinah Charter should be adopted as a reference and guide, in organising and managing the administration to upgrade the living standards of the people.
“Through education, and strong support and effort, we in Sarawak will continue to ‘migrate’ towards betterment, and Sarawak will become a prosperous and advanced state,” he said.
At the ceremony, Wan Junaidi and his wife also presented the Maal Hijrah awards to 14 recipients, including the Research & Development Achievement Award, Muslim Civil Servant Award, Non-Muslim Civil Servant Award, Youth Award, and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia Student Award.
