BATAM, July 8 (Bernama) -- Energy solutions provider Wasco Bhd, formerly known as Wah Seong Corporation Bhd, successfully completed the fabrication of its 300th module from the company’s expansive 33-hectare world-class fabrication yard here today.

The critical power generation topside module is part of the Angola floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) project for an international FPSO operator.

Speaking to reporters at the celebration of the module completion ceremony, Wasco engineering and fabrication division chief executive officer Shan Karupiah said the completion of the 300th module fabrication emphasised the company’s high-quality in-house engineering capability, unwavering focus on quality, health, safety and environment; and commitment to meet evolving customer requirements.

He said the module completion was also ahead of schedule, positively impacting the overall project timelines for the customer and end-user.

Meanwhile, he said Wasco had invested US$30 million (US$1=RM4.71) to acquire and upgrade its Batam fabrication yard.

Shan said the fabrication yard, which has an annual fabrication capacity of about 75,000 metric tonnes, has undergone substantial upgrades, including a new 300 metres quayside capable of accommodating ocean-going vessels and loading out modules up to 10,000 metric tonnes; additional covered workshops; large blasting and painting chambers; an Engineering Centre of Excellence; electrical and instrumentation workshops; fully concreted fabrication facility; and a training school.

“With the new quayside and enhanced facilities, we are well equipped to handle more extensive and complex projects.

“These upgrades reflect our commitment to support clients’ needs to have a reliable fabricator in this region, mitigate clients’ risks against geo-political risks/sanctions and support the demand for modularisation in the new industry segments such as liquefied natural gas, new energies and carbon capture, use and storage,” he said.

Shan said the facility also recently celebrated a significant safety milestone by recording 47 million man-hours without a lost time injury (LTI), underscoring the company’s rigorous safety standards and commitment to providing a safe working environment to all stakeholders.

“Achieving 47 million man-hours without an LTI is a culmination of our unwavering commitment to safety, excellence and the collaborative efforts of our dedicated team.

“Ensuring a safe working environment is integral to our operations and critical to the successful delivery of our projects,” he said.

At the event, Shan also inaugurated Wasco’s Engineering Centre of Excellence, highlighting the company’s pursuit of innovation and superior engineering standards.

“As the company celebrates this major milestone, it remains dedicated to sustainable future growth and innovation.

“Ongoing investments in people, quality, safety and facilities will drive performance and ensure that Wasco’s engineering and fabrication division continues to meet and exceed the expectations of clients and stakeholders worldwide,” he added.
