MANILA, July 9 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- An 11-year-old girl died, and six others are missing after a flash flood swept away a pick-up truck carrying 17 people in Cebu province, central Philippines, local officials reported Tuesday, according to Xinhua.

Roger Suico, chief of the disaster reduction and management office of Carmen town, where the accident occurred around 5 pm local time on Monday, said rescuers saved 10 people and recovered the body of the girl on Monday night some 5 kilometres from the accident site. Six people remain missing, including a newlywed couple and a pregnant woman.

Initial investigation suggests that the group attended a wedding in a resort and were heading back to their village when their truck drove through the flooded road and swept into a swollen roadside creek.

"The driver miscalculated, thinking the truck could pass through the flooded road," Suico said.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Carmen Mayor Carlo Villamor stated that rescue workers resumed searching for the missing six.
