KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's halal industry is poised to explore exporting its halal certification services to countries that have requested support, said Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Tengku Zafrul said Malaysia’s halal certification is regarded as the global gold standard due to its well-established halal ecosystem and robust regulatory framework, positioning the country to capture a significant share of this market.

"It is time for us to start thinking of exporting our halal certification services to other countries that have requested our support," he said during the launch of the Halal Accreditation and Technology Improvement (HATI) initiative today.

Tengku Zafrul noted that the halal issue was also discussed during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s recent missions to the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as well as his recent trade mission to Vietnam.

"The governments of all these countries have requested Malaysia’s help and support in halal certification for their agriculture and processed food industries.

"As we look to the future, it is crucial to recognise the immense potential of the global halal market, which is expected to grow to at least US$5 trillion (US$1=RM4.67) by 2030," he added.

According to Tengku Zafrul, the HATI initiative aims to strengthen ties with key halal markets and enhance participation in the global value chain.

With a RM100 million dedicated fund, he said, the initiative will facilitate greater market access for Malaysian halal products, promote the exchange of best practices and foster innovation across the industry.

He said that by leveraging digital solutions and innovative practices, HATI aims to streamline the certification process, reduce operational inefficiencies, and support businesses and small and medium enterprises in meeting global halal standards.

"This initiative will not only benefit our local enterprises but also bolster Malaysia's reputation as a producer of high-quality halal products.

"MITI, through Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd (MIDF), will ensure that HATI’s implementation is executed efficiently to achieve its stated objectives," he added.
