NEW YORK, July 16 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- US stocks closed higher on Monday, reported Xinhua.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 210.82 points, or 0.53 per cent, to 40,211.72. The S&P 500 added 15.87 points, or 0.28 per cent, to 5,631.22. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 74.12 points, or 0.40 per cent, to 18,472.57.
Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with energy and financials leading the gainers by going up 1.56 per cent and 1.42 per cent, respectively. Meanwhile, utilities and consumer staples led the laggards by dropping 2.39 per cent and 0.60 per cent, respectively.
