SINTOK, July 17 (Bernama) — The Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) has agreed to retain several excellence incentives for the 2024 Higher Education Institution Games (SUKIPT) to boost the spirit and motivation of competing athletes.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said these incentives include a cash prize of RM3,000 for athletes named top sportsman and sportswoman.

“The best male and female teams will each receive RM7,000 in cash prizes. Also, those who achieve a 'Hole in One' in golf will get RM1,000 in cash,” he added.

“I am pleased to announce that the total cash prize of RM20,000 awarded collectively to athletes who break national records during the championship will be continued for SUKIPT 2024,” he said.

His speech text was delivered by Higher Education Deputy Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud during the launch of SUKIPT 2024 at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) today.

Zambry urged all participating athletes to seize this golden opportunity, especially the RM20,000 incentive, noting no athlete has yet achieved a national record in any event at the competition.

He said MOHE's strong commitment to elevating the standard of national sports through high-profile events at both national and international levels.

This was important in maintaining momentum and the excellent performance of national athletes from higher education institutions, including the ASEAN University Games, World University Games, SEA Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and the Olympics.

SUKIPT 2024, scheduled from September 6-14 at UUM, will feature 28 sports events with 233 gold medals up for grabs.

A total of 74 contingents have confirmed participation, with over 6,000 athletes, 2,500 officials and more than 400 volunteers expected to be involved across 23 competition venues.
