Chance For Hakim Danish To Race In Moto3 - Azhan Shafriman

19/07/2024 03:52 PM

SEPANG, July 19 (Bernama) -- Upcoming rider, Hakim Danish Ramli is expected to be one of the youngest representatives of the country to compete in the Moto3 stage of the World Motorcycle Championship (MotoGP) this season at the Malaysian Grand Prix (GP) on November 1 to 3 via a wildcard.

However, Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer, Azhan Shafriman Hanif said that everything depends on the permission given by the organisers as Hakim Danish has not reached 18 at the moment.

"To compete through a wildcard ticket in Moto3, I think the minimum age for a rider is 18 years old and Hakim Danish is only 17 years old. So we will discuss further with Dorna as the organisers if they can give an exception to the age limit.

"The opportunity is there, it's just whether it's allowed or not because it depends on the funds and sponsors we will secure for the wildcard slot. If possible, we want to have a rider perform in MotoGp Malaysia because last year we had Damok (Syarifuddin Azman)," he said.

He said this when met by the media at the launch of the SIC Petronas Duathlon here today.

Hakim Danish is currently competing in the RedBull MotoGP Rookies Cup 2024 championship race and also the GP world championship with the SIC Racing-MSI team.

In the meantime, Azhan Shafriman said, the duathlon tournament that will be held on November 16 is a large-scale sports event that has been held in addition to motor sports.

He said, SIC is now more open to be a venue for other sports activities instead of only focusing on motor sports.

"If you want to follow in terms of the largest participation, this is the first time but in 2015, we had one duathlon but the participation was so limited. So it's not the first time, but the first time for the largest participation.

"This is one of the branches we want to do in this SIC. Maybe after this, there will be other events, God willing we will work with the parties involved to increase the number of activities at this SIC," he said.
