THAILAND BUSINESSES AFFECTED BY GLOBAL IT OUTAGE

BANGKOK, July 19 (Bernama) -- Thailand’s businesses, including airlines and hospitals, have been hit by the global IT system outage.

Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital issued an apology on Facebook for service delays caused by the worldwide computer system failure.

"Due to some computer systems down worldwide, the IT system of hospitals is disrupted. There may be a delay in service," it said here Friday.

It also informed patients who have appointments today, they will be contacted by the hospital as soon as possible and if the patient wanted to make an appointment by themselves, they can contact the hospital directly.

Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital is operated by the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital of Mahidol University.

Meanwhile, AirAsia Thailand also posted on its Facebook account that it has implemented manual backup systems to maintain service, but this may result in delays and inconvenience.

"Due to a Microsoft Azure system outage affecting ground service operations, there is a worldwide issue that is being resolved. This is impacting seat reservation and check-in systems at all airports.

"We recommend that passengers arrive at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled departure time. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause," it said.

Thai AirAsia is a low-cost airline in Thailand, a joint venture between Malaysian AirAsia and Thailand's Asia Aviation.

However, Thai authorities, including the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), the Bank of Thailand (BoT), and Airports of Thailand (AOT), have yet to release any statements regarding the IT outage.
