TUARAN, July 20 (Bernama) -- Residents of the small district of Kiulu here have expressed hope that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, the King and Queen of Malaysia, will visit their villages and experience firsthand the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of the predominantly Dusun ethnic community.

Assistant district officer Leprus Esuvas Giswa said Kiulu residents are incredibly proud to witness Sultan Ibrahim’s installation as the 17th King of Malaysia and eagerly anticipate the royal visit.

He said that Kiulu is well-known for its tourist attractions in the highlands, beautiful rivers ideal for rafting, the Tagal fish conservation system and its friendly locals.

“Besides our heritage and cultural traditions, Their Majesties can also taste various traditional foods such as Tuhau (wild ginger-based dish) and Bosou (river fish pickle). I believe this will strengthen the connection between the royal couple and us here.

“On behalf of the people of Kiulu, I congratulate Sultan Ibrahim on his installation as the 17th King of Malaysia. The people here always pray for the well-being of the King and Queen. Daulat Tuanku!” he told Bernama.

Earlier, Leprus, along with dozens of residents from Kampung Bungalio, located in the highland rural area of Sabah about 35 kilometres from Kota Kinabalu, watched the King’s installation ceremony through ‘wayang pacak’ (outdoor screening) at the Jiwa Komuniti MADANI Programme organised by the state Information Department.

Community Development Leader for Kiulu constituency, Gulubi Guntarik, said Kiulu has over 70 tourist spots that showcase its natural beauty and cultural heritage.

He added that Kiulu has 24 Tagal areas, demonstrating a symbiotic system passed down through generations, providing a food source for the locals while ensuring the sustainability of the area’s river fish.

“We are ready to showcase the uniqueness of our village to Their Majesties and help them get to know us better,” he said.

Kampung Bungalio resident Nurain Sumpan, 60, said the locals learnt about Sultan Ibrahim’s friendly and caring personality through media reports, which highlighted his casual engagements with the public in programmes such as the Kembara Mahkota Johor.

“His Majesty has made significant contributions to the people in Johor. Thus, we are confident that the King will extend his leadership across the nation, including Sabah. Please come to Kiulu, Your Majesty,” she said.
