PALESTINIAN PRESIDENCY REJECTS WASHINGTON’S GAZA PLANS, AFFIRMS PLO’S LEGITIMACY

21/07/2024 10:02 AM

RAMALLAH, July 21 (Bernama-WAFA) -- The Palestinian Presidency affirmed on Saturday that the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and holds the exclusive right to determine their future.

"No entity, including the occupation or any other party, has legitimacy in Gaza, the West Bank or Jerusalem without the acceptance of the Palestinian people and their leadership," the Palestine News Agency (WAFA) quoted the official spokesman for the Presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, as saying.

He addressed reports of Washington discussing Gaza's future with other parties, declaring such actions illegitimate and unacceptable to Palestinians.

He also stressed the immediate priority is to halt Israeli aggression and the ongoing massacres against Palestinians, rather than focusing on post-war plans.

In response to comments from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Abu Rudeineh reiterated that Israel's presence in Gaza and the West Bank is illegal.

He affirmed that Palestine has jurisdiction over these territories, including Jerusalem.

The spokesperson concluded by asserting that the end of the occupation and the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital are essential for regional security and stability.
