KUALA TERENGGANU, July 21 Bernama) -- Supporters of the Terengganu FC (TFC) squad may no longer see imported Croatian striker Ivan Mamut in action for the rest of this season.
TFC head coach Tomislav Steinbruckner has hinted at the possibility of releasing the 26-year-old player during the second transfer window due to his persistent injury problems.
Steinbruckner said he could not wait any longer considering the long league season ahead and the many matches still to be played.
"Now Ivan has been out for six months. We don't know. He has tried light training but still felt some pain ... scared to start.
"I don't know when he will be fine and come back. But we must look for the next open window to maybe get some more offensive players, especially a central attacker," he said when contacted today.
Steinbruckner said he discussed the matter with the management a few days ago but a final decision is still under consideration.
He said TFC needs to secure a player in Mamut's position to achieve the high targets set by Terengganu Football Club Sdn Bhd (TFCSB) for the Super League, FA Cup and Shopee Cup.
Mamut has been a key player for the Terengganu squad, scoring 17 goals in all competitions throughout the 2023 season.
