WATER SUPPLY RESTORED TO 14.3 PER CENT AREAS IN SELANGOR

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- Water supply,  which was disrupted in seven areas due to odour pollution detected in Sungai Kundang and Sungai Sembah in Selangor, has been restored to 14.3 per cent of as of 9 am today.

In a statement issued today,  Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) said the supply is expected to be restored to about 40 per cent by 8 am tomorrow and 90 per cent towards evening.

The water supply is expected to be fully restored by 8 am on Friday depending on the location of the consumers' premises and the water pressure at the distribution system, it said on its official Facebook page today.

It also advised consumers not to worry if the water that flowed from their pipes is coloured.

“Let the water from the tap flow for five to 10 minutes until it becomes clear, but if the water supply is still coloured, they can contact Air Selangor at 15300 or the 'Help Centre' for inspection and follow-up action,” it said.

According to Air Selangor, it has been mobilising water tankers to critical premises such as hospitals, clinics, dialysis centres and funeral service centres.

Alternative water supply assistance has also been provided at 17 local service centres," it said.

Meanwhile, Selangor Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaludin, in a statement, said that the odour pollution detected since last Monday originated from a factory premises believed to process acrylic materials for recycling. 

Seven areas in the Klang Valley namely Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor experienced unscheduled water disruptions as the operation of four water treatment plants was temporarily suspended due to the pollution.
