PUTRAJAYA, July 28 (Bernama) -- MYNIC Bhd, an agency under the Digital Ministry, targets a five to ten per cent increase in local and international “.my” domain users in 2025, from the estimated 400,000 users by this year’s end.

Its chief executive officer (CEO), Datuk Hasnul Fadhly Hasan, shared that the agency has received numerous applications from various sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, technology, and banking.

“We are receiving applications from both local and international companies. With new businesses joining the digital economy, including cryptocurrency ventures, we are confident in achieving our target,” he told Bernama.

Hasnul emphasised the agency’s goal of encouraging entrepreneurs to register their businesses with the “.my” domain to expand their reach.

“We have a poultry farmer who registered with our domain. After launching his website with the ‘.my’ domain, he increased his chicken sales from 500 to 2,000 a month to the point where he had to partner with another farmer due to high demand.

“We see this kind of success story regularly,” he said.

Hasnul added that the “.my” domain is more than just a web address, it represents a strong Malaysian identity and credibility, essential for establishing a professional online presence.

To further promote “.my” domain registrations, MYNIC has been actively organising competitions.

The agency launched the ‘RevUp and Register’ Eid Adha campaign in June and recently announced the winner, who received a five-gramme (g) gold bar.

“Participating in the RevUp and Register campaign not only offers a chance to win fantastic prizes but also significantly enhances your brand’s visibility and trustworthiness in the digital landscape.

“Those interested can still register their .my domain names through 18 participating registrars. Who knows, you might be the winner of our prizes worth RM200,000,” Hasnul said.

To commemorate Malaysia’s independence celebration in August, MYNIC is launching another special sub-campaign. Registrants of a “.my” domain name with a subscription of one to ten years would be eligible for various rewards, including a grand prize of a Proton X50.

Meanwhile, Shaun Lim Shan Her, CEO of Shinjiru Technology Sdn Bhd and one of the participating registrars, said that a tremendous number of new “.my” domain registrations were received throughout this campaign.

“This positive response shows that more individuals and organisations are now going broader in the digital world by having their digital premises. ‘.my’ domains provide a unique identity to us Malaysians, are safe to own, and offer high security,” he said.

Clinton Ooi Chin Keat, the winner of the 5g gold bar and a property market veteran of over 20 years, expressed his satisfaction with the prize received after registering a domain for a client.

“I have been using the ‘.my’ domain for two to three years. A company can have multiple domains, sometimes specific to its products.

“For example, I helped register domains for various housing projects for my client, making it easier for customers to find information about each project,” he added.
