Wcit 2024: Consumers Flock To Rahmah Sales For Cheaper Food Staples

29/07/2024 02:29 PM

IPOH, July 29 (Bernama) -- Residents around Ipoh flocked to the MADANI Mega Rahmah Sale held in conjunction with the World Conference on Islamic Thought and Civilisation (WCIT) 2024 to stock up on staple food items.

Bernama’s survey of the sale’s location at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah Meru Raya revealed that shoppers turned up early, keen to purchase essentials for their families at cheaper prices.

Mohamad Tarmizi Ramli, 63, said people always hope for more affordable prices and he arrived at 9 am to buy subsidised rice and cooking oil.

"I learned about the Jualan Rahmah MADANI from a WhatsApp group. This morning I bought 5 kg of rice for RM14.60 and two packets of cooking oil at RM2.50 each. There’s a limit of two packets per person.

"We often look forward to Rahmah Sales, especially for buying rice, because it is more expensive at supermarkets or regular stores," he told Bernama.

Meanwhile, homemaker Syarmalini Sharif Ali, 49, said that people were not deterred despite it being a working day, and thanked the government for continuing to organise such sales to help consumers save costs.

"I accompanied my mother to specifically buy subsidised cooking oil, rice, chicken, and eggs, all of which were cheaper than regular prices,” she said.

Maria Samsul Rijal, 42, from Batu Gajah, said the MADANI Rahmah sales are very helpful for people like her to reduce expenses, as the prices are significantly lower compared to supermarkets.

"It's up to the consumers to manage their family expenses. Some may prefer shopping at supermarkets, but for me, if there’s a Rahmah Sale, I can get various items for 10 to 30 percent cheaper.

"Moreover, there are various vendors here, such as AEON, Segi Fresh, and other companies offering reasonable prices. For instance, large white prawns are sold at RM26 per kg compared to RM31, which certainly helps save cost," she added.
