KOTA KINABALU, July 29 (Bernama) -- Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor calls on the state Education Department (JPN) staff and educators to embrace and integrate advanced knowledge and teaching methods, rooted in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).

He said that this approach is crucial for facilitating teaching, in alignment with the country’s goal of fostering a competitive and outstanding education system.

“The development of a 'glocal' (seamless integration between the local and global standards) education system is essential. It ensures that our education system remains competitive on the global stage while preserving our unique identity,” he said.

“Therefore, the Sabah JPN staff play a crucial role and take on the responsibility of navigating the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0),” he said when officiating the 12th Sabah JPN Academic Excellence Recognition Ceremony (MEKAR), at the Sabah International Convention Centre, here, today.

Also present were Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, and state education director Datuk Raisin Saidin.

Hajiji added that the Sabah government is fully committed to supporting the state JPN’s efforts to achieve the nine focus areas, outlined in the department’s strategic direction, from this year through 2025.

He highlighted that one of these goals is to raise the state average grade points for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) to 5.0. This objective aligns with the Sabah Maju Jaya initiative, which emphasises the development of human capital as a key priority.

Hajiji also noted that the Sabah government will continue its collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), through the state JPN, to advance the government's agenda for enhancing the quality of education in the state.

He also stressed the importance of this cooperation, stating that educational excellence will serve as a catalyst for improving the quality of life for the people, and for producing skilled, exceptional, and competitive human capital.

Regarding the MEKAR initiative, Hajiji expressed hope that it will serve as an inspiration, and motivate educators to strive for continued excellence. He believes that MEKAR will further drive the advancement of the state’s education sector, aligning it with the evolving pace of the education world, and the advances in information technology in the 21st century.
