Mbot To Develop Comprehensive Framework To Diversify Professional Pathways

PUTRAJAYA, July 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) is set to develop a comprehensive framework for accrediting and professionalising technology-related short courses and micro-credentials, said Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang.

He said the framework would facilitate multiple pathways to professional development and recognition.

“By fostering multidisciplinary and cross-cutting talent, I believe this initiative will greatly enhance talent growth and competitiveness. It will be a game-changer in driving innovation and elevating our nation's global standing,” he said in his speech at the MBOT Experts Network in Technology, Innovation and Cooperative Event (ENTICE) here today.

This initiative is in line with the National TVET Policy 2030, a strategic plan designed to elevate the country's technical and vocational education system to meet industry demands and reduce reliance on foreign labour.

Chang said to propel Malaysia towards a knowledge-based economy, it is vital that at least 35 per cent  of the labour force comprises highly skilled individuals, aligning Malaysia with the average level of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). 

OECD is an international organisation that works to build better policies for better lives. It works closely with policymakers, stakeholders and citizens to establish evidence-based international standards and to find solutions to social, economic and environmental challenges.

According to World Bank data, Malaysia needs to create two million additional high-skilled jobs and Chang said Malaysia currently faces a shortage of skilled tech professionals with demand exceeding supply.

Chang also congratulated MBOT on the launch of the MBOT STRIVE (2024-2029) strategic plan, which aligns with the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (NSTIP) 2021-2030, a detailed roadmap outlining six key thrusts to advance Malaysia’s technological landscape.

“The holistic approach of STRIVE, incorporating stakeholder perspectives and aligning with NSTIP's vision, will serve as a valuable guide for MBOT to navigate the next five years and solidify its position as a leader in talent development,” Chang added.

ENTICE is a platform that aims to nurture talent and promote inclusivity within the technological sector, creating a supportive community for MBOT members to thrive and collaborate.

Since its inception in 2015, MBOT has registered nearly 90,000 professionals, committed to supporting and advancing technological and technical expertise.
