Erdogan Strongly Condemns The Treacherous Assassination Of Ismail Haniyeh

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan “strongly condemns” the “treacherous assassination” of Hamas Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

On the platform X, Erdogan described the assassination as “a despicable act aimed at disrupting the Palestinian cause, the glorious resistance of Gaza and the struggle of our Palestinian brothers, and demoralising and intimidating the Palestinians”.

According to him, the purpose of the assassination is the same as the purpose of the disgusting attacks on Sheikh Ahmed Yasin, Abdul Aziz Al Rantisi and many other Gazan political figures.

“However, Zionist barbarism will not be able to achieve its goals as it has done so far,” he said.

Erdogan expressed his hope that “with the stronger stance of the Islamic world and the alliance of humanity, the terror inflicted by Israel on our geography, especially the oppression and genocide in Gaza, will definitely come to an end, and our region and our world will find peace”.

For this reason, the president vowed that Turkiye “will continue to try all means, push all doors and support our Palestinian brothers with all our means and all our strength”.

“We will continue to work for the establishment of a free, sovereign and independent State of Palestine, based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday confirmed the death of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas group, stressing that an investigation is underway.

The Arab Republic of Egypt condemned the “dangerous Israeli escalation policy” over the past two days, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Egypt considers this dangerous escalation warns of the dangers of igniting a confrontation in the region in a way that leads to dire security consequences, warning against the consequences of assassinations, violations of the sovereignty of other countries, and fuelling conflict in the region.

“Egypt called on the Security Council and influential international powers to assume their responsibility in stopping this dangerous escalation in the Middle East, preventing the security situation in the region from getting out of control, and putting an end to the brinkmanship policy,” said the Arab republic.

Egypt considered that the coincidence of this regional escalation, with the lack of progress in the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, increases the complexity of the situation.

It also “indicates the absence of Israeli political will to calm the situation, and undermines the strenuous efforts made by Egypt and its partners to stop the war in the Gaza Strip and put an end to the human suffering of the Palestinian people”.

Echoing Turkiye and Egypt, Pakistan “condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including extrajudicial and extraterritorial killings irrespective of the motives”.

"Pakistan views with serious concern the growing Israeli adventurism in the region. Its latest acts constitute a dangerous escalation in an already volatile region and undermine efforts for peace,” its Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe also expressed his strong condemnation of the assassination and stated unequivocally that “he would never condone such actions”, his media office said.
