Laos Seeks To End Violence Against Women

31/07/2024 08:47 PM

VIENTIANE, July 31 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- The Lao Women's Union is continuing to lend its backing to efforts to end violence against women and children and people trafficking, reported Xinhua.

Violence against women has long-term effects on them and their children, as well as on communities and society as a whole, Lao national TV reported on Wednesday.

Affected children face increased health risks and educational problems, absenteeism and abnormal behaviour. This has a negative impact on families concerned as well as overall national development.

Relevant authorities pledged effective measures to prevent and tackle violence against women and children and human trafficking.

A quality police and justice response is crucial for ensuring that laws against such violence meet international standards, are enforced, keep women and girls safe from violence, hold perpetrators accountable, and provide effective solutions, according to the report.
