PARIS, July 31 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Deng Yawen of China won the Olympic gold medal in the women's BMX Freestyle on Wednesday, with a score of 92.60 points.

The 18-year-old Chinese rider produced the two highest scores of the competition, to finish ahead of Perris Benegas of the United States, who scored 90.70 points in an impressive second run, while Australia's Natalia Diehm took the bronze medal with 88.80 points, Xinhua news agency reported.

Hannah Roberts, who had been the only rider to score higher than Deng in Tuesday's qualifying session saw her hopes of gold ruined by two falls.

The same happened to Sun Jiaqi of China, who finished seventh after two spectacular runs were spoiled by falls as she pushed a fraction too hard in her search for gold.
